Calvin Ramsay on verge of Liverpool transfer as Aberdeen target record £6m total

Aberdeen are determined to bank a record fee for hot shot Calvin Ramsay as Liverpool step up the chase to land the Pittodrie prospect.

It is understood the Anfield club are on the verge of landing the 19-year-old on a deal worth more than £4m – which will smash through the £6m barrier with add ons.

The Dons pocketed £3m up front for Scott McKenna when the defender signed for Nottingham Forest in September 2020 – and they are due a tasty kick-back of more than £1m if the centre half can help lead his side to the Premier League through the play-offs.

Ramsay – who is also being chased by Leeds United and several other sides in England and in Italy – is also poised for a big money move that will earn the Pittodrie club for years to come.

The Scotland Under-21 cap has been identified as a long term right back rival for England star Trent Alexander-Arnold – which could give the Reds two Scottish full backs with national skipper Andy Robertson on the other flank.

Aberdeen are resigned to losing the youngster this summer after coming close to casing in during the January window when Leeds were considering a £4.8m bid.

They will allow the kid to go as a chunk of the funds will be handed to boss Jim Goodwin to rebuild the misfiring first team squad.

Goodwin is planning a complete overhaul after telling up to 10 players they had no futures in the Granite City.

The Pittodrie manager only started players who are under contract for next season in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Hibs, which had left the Dons lingering in 10th spot in the Premiership with two games remaining.
