Calvin Ramsay breaks transfer silence after Liverpool links and makes Trent Alexander-Arnold admission

Calvin Ramsay has spoken for the first time on the speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool in the summer and revealed his admiration for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The ECHO reported last week that Liverpool are monitoring the Aberdeen youngster following an impressive breakthrough season in the Scottish Premiership. The 18-year-old has featured 32 times for his side so far this season.

And despite the Scottish outfit ultimately enduring an underwhelming campaign, the right-back’s performances have been a ray of positivity and earned him admiring glances from elsewhere. And those performances haven't just caught the eye of Liverpool.

Earlier this week, Ramsay was named the Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year for his impressive displays this season. And speaking after claiming the award, the youngster admitted that he is flattered by speculation linking him with a move in the upcoming summer transfer window.

He said: “There has been quite a few clubs linked with me, in January as well. But, for me, I’m still an Aberdeen player, I’ve still got to focus on the four games left this season and keep putting in good performances if I can get myself back in the team. In the summer, we’ll see where it takes me.

“It’s good being linked with those clubs but I’ve just tried to block it out really. You can’t get caught up in all of that. That’s the worst thing, especially as a young player. I’ve just broken into the first team this season, so I’m trying to block it out and keep playing my game. The rest will take care of itself.

“If you come into the first team and play well, like I have, anything can happen. The likes of Aaron Hickey when he came in at Hearts. He did well and got a big move to Serie A and he’s been brilliant, scoring goals and everything.”

While Ramsay has also explained how Alexander-Arnold is a player that he looks up to.

“My dad has helped me a lot,” Ramsay said. “Obviously players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker, all those top players, I like to watch videos of them and try and base my game on them. But when I was younger growing up, my dad definitely helped me a lot to get to where I am.

“My dad played at a lower level. But he was good to be fair, he was a decent wee player. He was a striker but he didn’t make it to the top level obviously, where he wanted to get to.

“But he knew with me that I had a chance ever since I was young. He used to train with me all the time when I was younger, every day after school. It’s helped me massively.

“Obviously they [Alexander-Arnold and Walker] are at a high level and if I try and base my game on them, then I know that I’ve got a chance of going as far as I can. As a full-back, watching Trent and his crosses and his technical ability, if I can get to that level then it would be a bonus. But at Aberdeen, I’m just trying to do as well as I can and see where that takes me.”
