Calvin Bassey has thanked his 'brothers' after he left Rangers for Ajax in a club record £22.9million move. Bassey joins the Dutch giants after making 65 appearances in two seasons at Ibrox.
He became a key player in Gio van Bronckhorst's side as they reached the Europa League final last season. And he also played his part in the club's historic title winning success in 2021.
Rangers have a sell on clause included in the deal and it looks like Bassey will look back on his time in Glasgow with great fondness. Bassey tweeted: "Where do I start...?
"Firstly, I just want to thank God for giving me this opportunity to play for a club that is as historic and amazing as Rangers.
"I want to thank the manager and the coaching staff. For the trust they put in me and for helping me to develop both as a person and as a player.
"I want to thank my teammates for all their help. I came here to play football and I'm leaving with brothers for life.
"I want to thank all the fans. You were truly incredible. I've never experienced anything like Ibrox.
"You will always have a place in my heart - once a Ger, always a Ger.
"Finally, I wish the team all the best and plenty of success for the future."
The highly-rated defender was attracting interest from Brighton and clubs across Europe, including Bundesliga and Serie A sides.
It is understood Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder had spoken to Bassey over the phone and was impressed, with the Dutch club preparing a formal bid as they look to replace Lisandro Martinez who has signed for Manchester United.
