PSV Eindhoven have been brutally told to 'get rid' of their version of Calvin Bassey.
The former Rangers star sealed his 'dream' move to Ajax last summer, banking the Glasgow giants their record biggest fee received in the process. But the defender found life in Amsterdam somewhat turbulent, earning heavy criticism from pundits and fans alike for his performances in an Eredivisie campaign that saw them finish third behind rivals PSV and league winners Feyenoord.
Eindhoven recruited Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite on loan but the 20-year-old has come under fire from former star Andy van der Meyde despite making 36 appearances for the Dutch outfit. The youngster's style has been heavily scrutinised by the ex-Toffees star who claims he made the comparison that he is simply PSV's version of the former Rangers starlet.
PSV reportedly do not hold an option to buy the centre-half from Sean Dyche's men, meaning a big transfer fee would be needed to lure him away permanently from Goodison. Van der Meyde isn't convinced and is urging the Dutch side to shelf buying the defender and allowing him to play football back home where his flaws won't be as heavily exploited.
He said on Veronica Offside: “Something has to be done there. That Branthwaite is just the Bassey of PSV. You need to get rid of that very quickly.
"I also don't understand why they say every time that they have to put it on permanently. That boy should just go and play football in England. Heading balls away and not crossing the centreline. And don't interfere with the game either. Because then you get things like this."
