Calvin Bassey sent post Rangers warning as Ajax star tells him element of game 'can be done better'

Calvin Bassey has been told to step up and improve at Ajax amid the Rangers defender forming part of a leaky defence.

The Dutch side are competing for second spot in Champions League Group A, with the Light Blues already out of the competition after four sobering defeats. Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side have conceded 16 goals with one scored but the Amsterdam club haven't fared much better, losing 12 over their four games.

They haven't kept a clean sheet in eight attempts ahead of hosting Liverpool on Wednesday and club captain Tadic insists the likes of Bassey - who joined the club from Rangers in the summer - need to sharpen up in their new-look plans. He told AD: "They have to get used to what we want and we to what they are good at. They have to help attackers with that. You see that this can be done better, especially in top duels.

"If they build up well, we can make a difference more often. We are looking for that balance and I think it is getting better and better.

"If we put good pressure on, the defence will have it easier. This team is completely new. We have lost so many players that you lose your plan.

"We are looking for the right formula again. That includes rules and principles. If you repeat them often, they become automatisms."
