Rangers' full-back Calvin Bassey could remain at Ibrox for at least another season - but Joe Aribo could kickstart a summer of deals for the Europa League finalists, reckons Simon Donnelly.
Bassey's valuation has skyrocket after an impressive end to the campaign with to Rangers slapping a £25million price tag on the head of a player recruited from Leicester's academy for just £200,000 two years ago. Former Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard is rumoured to be weighing up a move at Aston Villa, with a number of Premier League and Bundesliga outfits also monitoring the situation.
But with two years remaining on the Nigeria international’s deal, sporting director Ross Wilson and club chiefs are in no rush to move the player with his valuation only set to shoot up next term. Pundit Donnelly reckons that Bassey is looking likely to stay in Glasgow for next season, but reckons Southampton target Aribo will be a completely different story.
The playmaker is in the final year of his deal at Ibrox and is attracting interest from several English Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Fulham. Southampton are weighing up a bid and are set to be the first to make a move.
Former Celtic star Donnelly reckons that selling the 25-year-old could be the key factor in Rangers' summer business. So far this summer John Souttar is the only new addition to Gio van Bronckhorst 's squad.
He told The Go Radio Football Show: "I think there will be a lot of movement from Rangers side. Probably more than at Celtic in the next few weeks. It has gone quiet at Rangers, and it really depends on who moves on.
“I think Bassey will stay for another season at least, but you have the speculation with Aribo. These are the guys who will need to be replaced. It’s not a case of looking to the squad, these are guys who played most of the season.”
