Calvin Bassey says his move to Ajax was a transfer too good to turn down as he banks Rangers a hefty financial package.
The Nigerian international has moved to the Eredivisie champions for a fee in excess of £20 million, with Rangers describing it as the largest in their history. Bassey played a key role in the Ibrox reaching May's Europa League final but insists moving to Holland two years after leaving Leicester City's academy is the right next step with Champions League football in mind.
He said: "As a kid you always dream about playing for the biggest clubs in the world, playing in the Champions League and winning things. That's what Ajax is about. They play in the Champions League and they win trophies. They have got a history. The players who have come in and out of this club who have gone on to be amazing players and careers at Ajax or elsewhere just show that something is right here.

"It just made perfect sense for me. When I got the call, you didn't have to ask me twice. It was a definite yes.
"No doubt. It's a nice feeling having such a great club interested in you. Even just the interest, but for them to follow through and for me to be here, I can't put into words really."

Bassey also paid an emotional tribute to his former club, in particular, moved by the matchday atmosphere at Ibrox: "Firstly, I just want to thank God for giving me this opportunity to play for a club that is as historic and amazing as Rangers.
"I want to thank all the fans. You were truly incredible. I've never experienced anything like Ibrox. You will always have a place in my heart - once a Ger, always a Ger."
