Calvin Bassey Rangers replacements lined up as Gio van Bronckhorst reveals 'we have our list ready'

Giovanni van Bronckhorst insists Rangers a list of targets ready to pursue after Calvin Bassey departs. The defender is closing in on a move to Ajax which is set to smash the Ibrox club's transfer record and bank them in excess of £20million.

Bassey became pivotal to Van Bronckhorst 's side in the latter half of last season on their fairytale run to the Europa League Final and in winning the Scottish Cup at Hampden. That attracted attention from Europe and the Premier League with Brighton also interested in the 22-year-old.

But he's set to choose Ajax as his next destination and make Rangers a huge profit - they paid under £300,000 to take the Nigeria international from Leicester City's U-23s in 2020. And Van Bronckhorst, who left Bassey out of Saturday's 2-1 friendly win at Blackpool, is confident the club are ready to move quickly to replace the versatile defender.

He told Sky Sports "It was better for all to keep him behind. I think we are in talks with interested clubs, it looks like Calvin is moving on. Well, of course I want to keep Calvin, he's had incredible development in the last six months, coming from the bench into the team and never.

"I'm really happy with his performances but also, when you have players who are playing well in the league and Europe, the attention will be there. In the end, everything we do has to be in the best interests of the club.

"Yeah, of course. The squad is well at the moment. We changed the players who left and got new players in but with Calvin maybe going as well, we have to look for another player to add to the squad.

"We have our list ready. So, once the deal is done we can work on another player coming in."
