Calverton Leisure Centre swimming pool to reopen after huge £50k refurbishment

The swimming pool at Calverton Leisure Centre will reopen next week following a £50,000 refurbishment.

Some of the improvements to the centre in Flatts Lane include new sinks, urinals, hand and hair dryers, as well as an increased number of showers and private changing cubicles.

New floors have also been laid alongside refurbished walls for a fresh look.

The centre will be resuming some swimming activities from Monday, September 7 following the closures due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This will include public swimming, 1-2-1 sessions as well as aqua aerobics and parent and toddler sessions, but these must be booked in advance as per Covid-safe guidance.

Leader of the Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke said: "We are very pleased to be reopening Calverton Swimming Pool following the refurbishment.

"We think customers will be delighted with the new facilities and they will be able to get back into the pool and enjoy the sessions.

"We have worked really hard to make sure all of our leisure centres are safe for people to use and we have had some really positive feedback from people returning to our centres about the measures we have in place."

Gedling Borough Council restarted gym classes in July following the easing of lockdown measures.

The centre has implemented a number of measures to make it safe for customers to visit, including bookings, a one-way system and limited spaces.

The council says it has a membership offer that allows new members to join from £25 per month for adults and access any of the council gyms, pools, sports halls and classes across the borough.

Members are no longer required to sign up for a contract period and the council is offering a free three-day pass to anyone who wants to try out the facilities.

Councillor Clarke added: "It’s really important that people can have access to swimming pools, gyms and fitness classes near where they live and for it be reasonably priced.

"We want to make sure people have access to a healthier lifestyle and by updating our facilities, we can encourage more people to use their local leisure centre and improve their health and wellbeing."
