A huge season awaits for Callum Wilson and Newcastle United. The 30-year-old is moving into his third campaign in the North-east and will be desperate for his long-standing injury problems to subside.
In 44 Premier League appearances for the Magpies, Wilson has scored 20 goals and added five assists whilst cementing himself as a firm fans’ favourite at St James’ Park. The sky really would have been the limit for him had injuries not blighted his time at the club, the theme of his top-flight career.
Because of the likelihood that Wilson will miss a number of games, another striker is on Eddie Howe’s wishlist after Chris Wood struggled to have the desired effect since joining from Burnley in January. If, and when, a new forward is signed, it will be interesting to see how the minutes are split between him and a (hopefully) fully fit Wilson.

In spite of all the injury problems he has faced in the last few years, the former Bournemouth striker is still judged by the bookmakers as a fairly decent shout to win the Golden Boot. According to William Hill, only seven players have a better chance of getting their hands on the highly-coveted award for the 2022/23 season.
Wilson is valued at 25/1 alongside previous winner Jamie Vardy and Liverpool forward Diogo Jota. Unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland (10/3) is being viewed as the stand-alone favourite to win the Golden Boot following his move from Borussia Dortmund to champions Manchester City.
Mohamed Salah (9/2) and Harry Kane (6/1) are not far behind while Cristiano Ronaldo and Son Heung-min (both 10/1) make up rest of the main candidates. Here is the full list of the favourites to win the Golden Boot:
· Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – 10/3
· Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 9/2
· Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) – 6/1
· Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) – 10/1
· Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur) – 10/1
· Darwin Nunez (Liverpool) – 16/1
· Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal*) – 22/1
· Callum Wilson (Newcastle United) – 25/1
· Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) 25/1
· Diogo Jota (Liverpool) – 25/1
* Player is expected to make move prior to start of 2022/23 Premier League season
