Callum Wilson admits that Nottingham Forest midfielder Jesse Lingard would have been a "great addition" to Newcastle United's team.
Lingard was being heavily linked with a move to St James' Park during the January transfer window, though Manchester United's hefty loan fee stopped a move from materialising. After becoming a free agent this summer, the 29-year-old had several interest from clubs alongside Forest, including West Ham and the Magpies.
Speaking to Footballer's Football Podcast before the Premier League opener against the Reds, Wilson was asked about Lingard and Newcastle's interest in the England international. "I'm not sure to be honest," he said. "There's speculation of us signing everybody.

"I think since the takeover has happened, we were linked with most players that become available. He would have been a great addition to our squad but I guess that's probably for the hierarchy and for Jesse's people to have spoken and had them talks.
"I wish him all the best at Forest. I'm going to play against them on the first game of the season ironically, it'll be good to catch up with him after the game there and see how he finds it.
"Obviously, see how he thinks the season will pan out for them."
Wilson scored one of the goals in Newcastle's 2-0 win over Forest last weekend.
