Callum Wilson makes England World Cup claim amid 'disappointment' despite Newcastle win

Callum Wilson says Newcastle United won't get "carried away" by their winning start to the Premier League season - but feels the Magpies showed their class against Nottingham Forest.

Wilson, who suffered an injury hit season last term, is off the mark with a goal after sealing a 2-0 win over the newly promoted side. Speaking after Forest frustrated United in the first half, Wilson feels there is room for improvement.

He said: "We were dominant with the ball but we didn’t score – but in the second half the quality showed.

"First game of the season, we weren’t clinical enough and they played with a back five so it was congested in there and we needed to be a bit more intricate."

In a big year for Wilson, he was also asked about the World Cup finals in Qatar. He said: "I back myself, I want to go the World Cup so it’s about hitting the ground running. I’m disappointed I didn’t score more.

"I’m confident in all the players and staff here, we had a good end to the season last year and started well today but we don’t want to get carried away."
