It might be a week of high octane Champions League action but Saturday’s games were still occupying the hearts and minds of our Hotliners.
Steve McSherry, Uddingston, doesn’t seem too upset with Celtic winning while not being at their best. He emailed: “Celtic had enough chances to cruise home but once again poor finishing was to blame for not scoring more. After Hearts dropped points earlier it was important to get the three points to keep us well ahead of them so at the end of the day it was job done.” But Brian Wright, Bannockburn, isn’t chuffed with the Hoops captain. He said: “ Callum McGregor ‘took one for the team’, with a ‘professional foul’.
“It’s called CHEATING and deserves more punishment than he is going to get. He is one many footballers who are guilty of this type of cheating. They get off too lightly. These type of players earn thousands of pounds every week and yet still they cheat. And Joe Hart can expect his equity card through the letter box any time this week.”
Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “A few weeks back when football stopped it unfortunately worked against Celtic, but all teams go through a bad patch. No worries though, we’ve too many good players and we’ll come good again.”
Rangers fan Bill Black, from Glasgow, said: “A lot of our fans feared the worst going to Hearts but it was a great performance even when it was 11 v 11. That’s the standard has to be maintained because Celtic are going to drop many points.”
And Andy McDonald, Edinburgh, added: “It’s great to see Colak AND Morelos hitting the net at the weekend. If Rangers provide the supply these two have proved time and again that they’ll score.”
But Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, emailed: “Both the Old Firm have more crocs than Edinburgh Zoo and have only themselves to blame, when you see the Rangers debacle of signing injury prone John Souttar from Hearts.
“He’s spent more time in the treatment room than the dressing room and the only winners are Hearts.”
Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “That Rangers team are like children asking their parents for sick notes. Roofe, Souttar, Lawrence. Terrible state of play for a professional outfit.”
Not sure they can do much about being injured, Frank.
Gordon Ferguson, Kilwinning, emailed before the big Champions League clash at Anfield, saying: “Let’s hope Rangers and Liverpool serve up a match to honour the supporters both clubs have so tragically lost whilst attending a football match and never returning home to their families. Bill Shankly was wrong - football is not more important than life or death. Fans should remember that sometimes it’s a game and enjoy it!”
