Callum McGregor in Celtic injury blow as captain adds to Ange Postecoglou fitness concerns against RB Leipzig

Celtic captain Callum McGregor was forced off through injury during the crucial Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

The Parkhead skipper threw himself into a tackle in the build-up to Christopher Nkunku's opener for the Bundesliga side, but failed to stop the Frenchman and came out of challenge limping before eventually going down. He then received treatment from the Celtic medical team on the RB Arena pitch before attempting to play on for the crucial Group F Champions League showdown but had to admit defeat. Oliver Abildgaard was brought on as his replacement in the first half.

It means McGregor looks to have joined an ever-growing injury list for Ange Postecoglou 's men, with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Aaron Mooy all on the sidelines for the Scottish Premiership champions. McGregor is suspended for this weekend's game with St Johnstone after picking up a red card against Motherwell on Saturday.

However, he would have hoped to have been in contention for Celtic's second showdown with RB Leipzig next week at Celtic Park and will be desperate to play his part in that.
