Callum McGregor hails 'outstanding' Idah after brace vs Aston Villa

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has heaped praise on Adam Idah after his brace against Aston Villa last night.

After the Parkhead side went two goals behind within the opening five minutes, they looked all but defeated, although the Irishman stepped up with a quick-fire brace to draw them level before half-time.

Idah showed terrific improvisation for his first and was in the right place at the right time to level things up at 2-2 on 38 minutes after a fine Celtic move.

The 23-year-old had recently been coming in for some criticism from supporters after a lengthy goal drought, but his captain was full of praise for him at full-time last night: "I thought Adam (Idah) was outstanding," he told Celtic TV.

"They were really good goals, and he worked really hard for the team. Obviously, strikers want goals, so he’ll feel a lot better about himself after that, but he was excellent for the team, setting the pressure, and he was a real outlet for the team as well."

Amid Kyogo Furuhashi's somewhat unexpected departure to French Ligue 1 side Rennes on Monday, Idah stepped up and proved crucial for his side midweek.

He became the first opposition player to net at Villa Park in the Champions League this season with his brace, which took his own personal tally for 2024/25 to 10.

Despite Celtic being in talks to sign Brondby's Mathias Kvistgaarden, Idah is providing the goods at the top level.
