Callum McGregor explains fiery Celtic showdown with Rangers star Borna Barisic after derby flashpoint

Callum McGregor played down the run-in with Borna Barisic during a 2-2 draw between Rangers and Celtic after a tense derby showdown.

The Hoops got ahead through Daizen Maeda but had to claw things back late on via Kyogo Furuhashi's late leveller, after Ryan Kent and James Tavernier had put Michael Beale's hosts in front. There was flashpoints aplenty in the enthralling clash, with Greg Taylor remonstrating with Alfredo Morelos while he received treatment for a hamstring injury which forced him off injury.

Then Celtic captain McGregor and Rangers left-back Barisic exchanged fiery words during the game and then again at full-time as Ange Postecoglou's champions remain nine points clear at the top of the league. The midfielder is aware of how important Kyogo's goal was but told BBC Sportsound his battle with the Croatian was nothing. He explained: "It was fine, just handbags. We will focus on ourselves and hopefully by the end of the season we will have a good outcome.

"It's a massive goal in the context of the season. It keeps us where we were coming into the game, but in terms of performance, we could have been a lot better.

"The boys showed their character to keep going even if things are against us. You don't get it right all the time.

"We are always learning and we are humble enough to know we can get better. It keeps us where we are, we are in a good space."
