Callum McGregor Celtic injury news as Ange Postecoglou provides positive update

Ange Postecoglou has revealed Callum McGregor is "feeling better" after taking a heavy knock at Alloa.

The Celtic boss hopes his captain isn't ruled out for too long after Record Sport revealed on Sunday night the midfielder could face up to eight weeks on the sidelines.

McGregor collided with Alloa's Adam King during Celtic's 2-1 Scottish Cup fourth round victory at the Indodrill Stadium on Saturday night and there are fears he suffered a fractured cheekbone.

He was withdrawn after treatment and Postecoglou was downbeat about his return prospects at full-time having also been dealt injury blows to Liel Abada and Yosuke Ideguchi over the 90 minutes.

But the manager says he's since exchanged messages with his captain and provided the latest on his condition.

The Parkhead boss told Celtic TV: "He's better today, he wasn't in great shape straight after the game.

"He probably had a slight concussion as well. I exchanged messages with him yesterday and he feels a bit better which is great.

"Hopefully, his recovery doesn't take too long.

“Knowing the type of character that Callum is, for him to stay down you knew it was something significant because he’s as brave as they come.

“He didn’t go all the way down and you could see he was trying to stay up.”
