Callum Davidson in defiant St Johnstone declaration as he insists he's 'still up for fight' after Scottish Cup shocker

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson insists he's still up for the fight after a Scottish Cup humiliation at the hands of Kelty Hearts.

The former defender guided the Perth club to the greatest season in their history last term, winning both the League Cup and the Scottish Cup.

Davidson also took his side to within a whisker of the Europa League group stage this term as his side narrowly lost out to Galatasaray.

Since then though their form has nosedived and St Johnstone sit bottom of the Premiership.

And their defence of the Scottish Cup ended at the first hurdle as Kallum Higginbotham's strike condemned them to a 1-0 extra-time loss against Kelty Hearts.

Davidson said after the match: "I’m fighting.

"I am up for the fight.

“I want to fight, be here, change things and get results.

“We need the players to do that too.

“St Johnstone is a club close to me, so I won’t stop – I will be fighting until I get to the day I’m told not to.

“It’s not in my character to do anything else."

The St Johnstone players had to walk past the visiting fans after the final whistle, and they made it clear in no uncertain terms what they thought of the display.

Davidson sighed: "It’s difficult when you are asked to walk through the fans when you have just been beaten and we are on a bad run.

“It was difficult putting the players through that.

"It wasn’t a great idea asking us to walk through there.

“I thought the fans were fantastic with us today, they stayed behind the team when they could have turned earlier and put more pressure on us.

“Football is an emotional game and fans, players, myself we are all emotional.

“I don’t think I need to repeat what was said. Everyone is emotional.”
