Calls for ex-Celtic manager to be sacked ramp up after 'not acceptable' defeat

Only the bottom three in the English Premier League have lost more games than Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur this season.

Wednesday's 2-1 loss against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium was Spurs' sixth defeat from their past 10 games, form that has them closer to the relegation places than the much-coveted top four.

If you take a further look at their recent scores, that run of results has Spurs down with the likes of Southampton and Leicester, two teams deep in trouble. So, it's no wonder patience is wearing thin with the former Celtic manager.

Asked if he could turn things around, the 59-year-old replied: "You've got no choice. There's no magic cure. You've got to get up tomorrow, work hard and go into Sunday [vs Everton] and prepare to go into battle and turn around our fortunes and our season.

"There's nothing magical that's going to change it. There's always reasons for all these things to happen. The reality is that our results and our form in the league has been nowhere near good enough. That needs to change."

Postecoglou knew losing to their fierce rivals was “unacceptable” and former Spurs winger Aaron Lennon thinks sack talk would be increased ten fold if they hadn’t beaten Liverpool in the first leg of their English League Cup semi-final last week.

“This puts a lot of unrest in that camp,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast.

"If they weren't in the Carabao Cup semi-finals there would be big problems.

“They're massive words coming from the manager and the club captain [Son Heung-min]. They were flat and listening to Ange speak, you could feel that even he was really flat and disappointed there.

"There were times in the game when you were thinking this didn't feel like a derby, especially in that first half. It was all too nice, Arsenal were very comfortable and they were letting them have possession.

"Even in the second half, you were going 'come on, let's go for it, we've got six forward players on this pitch'. We didn't really see the tempo lift and that's disappointing in this game.

"The fans will not accept that because this game means so much to the fans and the football club, and it didn't feel like a derby watching it."
