“Called The Police After An Amazon Driver Left Me This Note”

Getting things brought directly to your home has become so normal that many people don’t even take a moment to consider how perhaps “unusual” and even risky it can be to have strangers show up at your door frequently. So sometimes it can be helpful to explore examples of when it’s worth being a bit more concerned.

A woman asked the internet for advice after she got a pretty creepy note from an Amazon driver. She contacted the police but wondered if she needed to take the matter further. We reached out to her via private message and will update the article when she gets back to us.

Most of us prefer to not ever interact with our delivery drivers

This is unprofessional behavior from the driver

While some of the “you overreacted” comments suggest that it is actually quite “normal” to get notes from delivery people, this begs the question, why did the driver add a big “DISCREET” and her initials? It would appear that he knew that her husband or partner finding the note would be a problem in the first place.

Just this simple fact should indicate why the woman was so uncomfortable in the first place, her personal history aside. Adding her initials as well is just excessive. In short, even if he didn’t have any “intentions” this is still deeply unprofessional behavior and not something he should be doing with any customers, ever.

Similarly, some folks seemed to not actually read through her story carefully and immediately jumped to criticize. While she did use the note in her title, the truth is that this driver was very clearly being weird in general, weird enough that she felt compelled to check her security cameras. The fact that he kept a mask up is another indication that he understands what his behavior looks like and would want to keep his face hidden.

There is probably even more footage out there, she just didn’t have the time to scroll through literal hours of video. This would all point to a driver who is absolutely ready to overstep his bounds. Importantly, the fact that the woman at no point showed any interest is also something to bring up. He was perfectly willing to be weird without any indication that the feelings or interest was mutual.

Her actions have been pretty limited in comparison

Sure, he might apologize to the police, but who wouldn’t in that case? Indeed, the fact that he apologized means he understood that she definitely did not feel the same way. It’s also worth pointing out just how many people “called her out” for contacting the police. While yes, he didn’t break any laws, this is a good way to establish a pattern and paper trail if something does happen in the future. Some people have to be told there will be consequences.

As many folks note, it’s best if she contacts Amazon about this. There is no way this is allowed in their company policy and they should, at the very least, remove this driver from this route. Leaving notes for people is abnormal and uncomfortable and really defeats the purpose of getting things delivered.

To reiterate, she isn’t instigating some legal action or trying to get him fired, she is simply asking the internet if she overreacted when she decided to call the police. This truly doesn’t seem like a situation where calling a non-emergency line is an overreaction. At the very least, it should get the behavior to stop, as he’s now been warned.
