'Called one a cheat' - Why John Coleman was booked in Accrington Stanley's Bolton Wanderers loss

Accrington Stanley boss John Coleman said he was booked against Bolton Wanderers after he claimed one of the Whites players was a 'cheat' in his side's loss.

Shaun Whalley's effort put the hosts ahead early in the first half. Kyle Dempsey had a pair of efforts, one from a free kick, saved by Toby Savin, while Dion Charles saw a goalbound rebound blocked by Mitch Clark.

After the break, Wanderers went two behind when George Johnston headed past James Trafford inadvertantly to double Stanley's lead, before Ricardo Santos headed off the line from Whalley. Wanderers got back into the game thanks to Harvey Rodgers putting through his own net.

But Afolayan completed the comeback with a marvellous solo effort to put the Whites in the lead. It proved to be the winner as Wanderers secured their first League One win and indeed goals in the division since the start of October to move back into the division's play-off places with the 3-2 comeback victory.

The Stanley boss was booked in injury time by referee Robert Madden. Speaking after the game, Coleman revealed it was he claimed one of the Bolton players was a 'cheat' for feigning injury, but that he was booked after fourth official Robert Lewis did not take kindly to it and informed the man in the middle.

He said: "I actually called one of their players a cheat and anybody who goes down injured 20 yards inside our half trying to get the game stopped. The game gets played on, he jumps up and sprints 50 yards is a cheat, isn't it.

"There's no other words you can use to describe for it because he's feigning injury, 100 per cent he's feigning injury because he gets up and sprints 50 yards.

"The fourth official told me off for it and I didn't like the way he spoke to me, so I told him and there seemed to be a bit of pleasure in bringing the referee over to get me a yellow card. That's the nature of football at the moment."
