Call the Midwife share behind-the-scenes photos teasing Christmas special

For many Call the Midwife fans, sitting down on Christmas Day to watch the festive special of the period drama has become an annual tradition. So with Christmas only a couple of months away, the popular BBC programme has shared a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the highly-anticipated 2022 festive episode.

The photos, which were shared on the Call the Midwife social media pages, shows cast members Helen George, who plays midwife Trixie; Leonie Elliott, who plays Lucille and Megan Cusack, who plays Nancy. The trio are in full costume in a snowy scene outside Nonnatus House.

Helen and Megan can be seen laughing as they throw snowballs at the photographer, meanwhile Leonie is stood beside them beaming at the camera. In the post on Facebook, Call the Midwife teased that the special episode "is looking fantastic", Cambridgeshire Live reports.

The caption read: "Call the Midwife Christmas Special Exclusive: Snowball fight!! Our ladies prepare for the forthcoming festive season in traditional winter fashion! Hello all!

"Today we’re delighted to give you this first behind-scenes photo peek at the new Call the Midwife Christmas Special!!! And for their first Christmas photo session, our cast – Leonie Elliott (Lucille), Helen George (Trixie) and Megan Cusack (Nancy) – subjected our poor photographer to a fine British tradition – the snowball fight

"We’re delighted to confirm that the results of our team’s hard work on the Christmas Special is looking FANTASTIC, and we just can’t wait to show you more – so stay tuned to this page, as we start to get ready for our brand new special, and Series 12!!! xxxxx

The behind-the-scenes images have received 24k likes on Facebook and more than 2k comments from excited fans. Over on Twitter, Jane Bell posted: "I cannot wait for this. Such a wonderful programme that makes you smile and then reach for the tissues. I love the Christmas specials as then you know its not long for the series."

Clare Louise added: "Can't wait for this Christmas day love this programme." Duncan Crossland tweeted: "My god I’m missing this programme. Hurry back, please…"

Jackie Roberts said: "Call the midwife for me is what Christmas is all about absolutely amazing drama." meanwhile Denise posted: "Oh, I miss this show. I cannot wait for the Christmas episode and new season."

The BBC announced in 2021 that the much-loved period drama has been commissioned up until series 13 and will be on air until at least 2024. You can stream all eleven series of Call the Midwife over on the BBC iPlayer.
