This name might ring a bell – the youngest member of the Cusack acting dynasty has joined Call the Midwife.
Megan Cusack, 24, will make her TV debut as Irish student midwife Nancy Corrigan next month.
Megan is the niece of actress sisters Niamh, Sorcha, Sinead and Catherine Cusack. Sinead, who appeared in the 2016 Christmas special of the BBC drama, is married to Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons.
Their son, The Wife star Max Irons, is her cousin and another cousin is Calam Lynch, Niamh’s son, who appeared in Bridgerton.
On top of that, Megan’s grandparents Maureen and Cyril were famous actors in the 1940s and her father is theatre producer Padraig Cusack.
Megan said coming from a family of well-known actors is not easy.
She said: “There are two sides to it and – not from them – but you do feel a certain pressure.
“It’s the worry people think you’re only getting somewhere because of them but then the benefit is they know the industry so well.
Daunting
“One of the most useful things for auditioning was my aunt Niamh saying you just need to have fun.”
Megan said a key part of landing the role was her ability to cycle – which she hadn’t done for a decade.
She explained: “My agent rang and she was like, ‘Can you ride a bike? Can you ride a bike?’ That’s all she said. I was like, ‘Uh yeah, I haven’t ridden one in years but, yes, I can.’
"And she was like, ‘great’ and hung up. Later I got the call saying I’d got it. It’s a good thing I said yes.”
Megan admitted joining Call the Midwife, which is celebrating a decade on air, was daunting.
She said: “It was the first bit of TV, proper kind of something that I was doing. The biggest challenge was just keeping the nerves in check.”
Megan, who grew up near Cork, Ireland, has appeared in theatre since drama school in London.
Nancy arrives in episode four of the current series.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to watch it on the day it comes out,” she said. “ I’m going to wait till the next day
and watch it on my own. Over breakfast.”
