It seems that the wait to see what’s next for Call of Duty: Warzone won’t be a long one.
On Monday, Activision Blizzard announced that the Call of Duty: Warzone follow-up is getting revealed this year. This news came by way of the company’s Q1 2022 financial results.
“Development on this year’s premium and Warzone experiences, led by Infinity Ward, is proceeding very well.” Activision Blizzard’s statement reads. “The new free-to-play Warzone experience, which is built from the ground-up alongside the premium game, features groundbreaking innovations to be revealed later this year.”
The ‘premium’ experience refers to Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s sequel, which Infinity ward has been teasing for several months.
From Activision's newest financial results
– Modern Warfare (2019) sequel to be the "most advanced experience in franchise history"
– new free-to-play Warzone will be revealed later this year, "built from the ground-up"

Reports of a Call of Duty Modern Warfare sequel have been floating around since the beginning of 2022. Aside from a quiet acknowledgment in February, nothing was official until now. Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard probably shook up the announcement pipeline, though.
Many fans are speculating why a free-to-play shooter like Call of Duty: Warzone needs a sequel. The most popular guess is that Activision Blizzard likely wants to address the ballooning install sizes, which is making players leave in droves. Given that the current PC version of Call of Duty: Warzone takes up 175GB of space, that speculation seems likely.
