There's some unfortunate news for fans waiting for the release of a multiplayer mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The multiplayer mod will no longer be released after its developers received a cease and desist letter from Activision.
The announcement was made on social media just a day before the scheduled release of the mod, which is known as H2M. It was announced by the developers just last July.
It should be noted that the remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare did not include a remaster of its multiplayer component.
H2M Mod Devs Announce Cancellation
In a post on their X (formerly Twitter) account, the developers behind the H2M mod said, "Today, our team members received a Cease & Desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project."
The team's statement added, "We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently."
The team's tweet can be viewed below.
What H2M Promised to Bring to the Remaster
According to a report, the H2M mod was meant to bring upgraded visuals for maps, characters, and weapons in the game. In addition, it also promised new content, such as new maps, gun camos, and more.
At the time of the mod's announcement, the developers said, "If Activision won't do what the fans want, we the community will."
Fans Give Negative Reviews
The report likewise notes that fans have already started to express their displeasure over Activision's actions. Many Steam users have left negative reviews on the game's page to appeal to Activision to reconsider their decision.
"You made a great remastered game for a community that were so eager for the old days, and then you decided to undermine that very same community by issuing a cease and desist order to a modding group who used your game as a base to also provide disenfranchised players with a wave of nostalgia and fun that many have felt has been lacking in recent titles," one user said in review.
"You don't care about the people playing your games, you care about your bottom line," that user added.
"Activision has once again proven itself to be a greedy, out-of-touch corporation with its recent decision to issue a cease and desist against the H2M Mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered," another user said in a separate review.
"This mod, created by dedicated fans, was a labor of love aimed at enhancing the gaming experience for the community," the fan added. "Instead of appreciating the passion and creativity of its fanbase, Activision chose to squash it, prioritizing profits over player satisfaction."
