An MSP is calling for urgent action to tackle antisocial thugs following a “despicable” assault on an elderly woman.
Clare Adamson has again written to North Lanarkshire Council about antisocial behaviour, after police revealed they are investigating the assault on the pensioner in Millfield Avenue, Motherwell
The Motherwell and Wishaw MSP was responding to reports that the 84-year-old resident had been hit by a stone thrown from a group of youths on Sunday, April 3.
Ms Adamson said: “It is very concerning to see ongoing reports of antisocial behaviour in the Daisy Park, Strathclyde Park, and Duchess Park areas.
“And the latest report of an assault on an 84-year-old is despicable. I have been regularly engaged with local police and North Lanarkshire Council over these problems.
“My office and Councillor Agnes Magowan have met with residents, business owners, local schools and the police to understand the extent of the problem.
“I have again written to the head of the local authority and I am seeking a meeting with local Police; this reprehensible behaviour must not stand. If we are dealing with the same group of people then, clearly, more concerted action is needed. Our community cannot be held to ransom by thuggery.
“I would urge residents with any information on antisocial behaviour to contact the Police on 101.”
Police are also urging anyone with information on the group of youths who were causing a disturbance in the street when the woman was hit to call 101.
