California’s Great America to remain open on weekends for all of 2023

SAN JOSE, California — Roller coaster fans will have more chances to visit California’s Great America in 2023.

The Santa Clara theme park, which traditionally hasn’t opened until the spring each year, has announced plans to welcome visitors on weekends all year round beginning in January.

“California’s Great America is in the business of delivering fun and lifelong family memories,” says Barb Granter, general manager. “With our expanded operating calendar in 2023, guests will have more opportunities than ever to experience all that Great America has to offer.”

In addition to the expanded calendar, the park — which is set to close for good within the next 11 years — has also announced its 2023 lineup of new and returning events.

Events include:

Peanuts Celebration — This new event, which runs select dates in April, should be fun for the many fans of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy and the rest of Charles Schulz’s memorable characters. The celebration includes new Peanuts live shows and other activities.

Friday Nights at Great America — Guest can enjoy live bands, food and other attractions on select Fridays from March to November.

Red, White & Brews — Live entertainment, gourmet food and local brews and vino will be offered during what’s described as a “hometown celebration of Americana food and fun as Great America’s Hometown Square” on select dates in June through July 4.

Carnivale at Orleans Place — This Big Easy celebration features Cajun food, New Orleans music acts, dance parties and the Spectacle of Color Parade featuring Mardi Gras floats during select dates in July.

Tricks and Treats — Celebrate Halloween at Great America with this spook-tacular celebration, featuring costume parties, play game shows, dance parties and food and drink during select dates in September and October.

WinterFest — The immersive holiday event “brings holiday cheer to California’s Great America as the park is magically transformed into a winter wonderland and holiday festival” during select dates in November and December, according to a news release.
