California resident Nick McCormack attempted to evacuate his parents from their Pacific Palisades home as a brush fire encroached on the area. McCormack recounted the challenges they faced, stating that the fire seemed to be on the other side of the road, with no one present to provide guidance or aid in the evacuation process. The situation worsened as cars became gridlocked, leading some individuals to abandon their vehicles or turn back.
Despite their efforts, McCormack's 63-year-old mother and 65-year-old stepfather were unable to locate a safe route out of the area when they tried to evacuate around 1:30 p.m. McCormack himself attempted to reach his parents by driving up the mountain but encountered the same difficulty in finding a secure path, leaving him stranded at the base of the mountain, observing the fire from a distance.
The couple, who have resided in the Pacific Palisades for the majority of their lives and moved to The Highlands region of the neighborhood approximately five years ago, found themselves in a precarious situation due to the fire's proximity. Video footage shared by McCormack on social media captured the sight of large smoke plumes billowing from the mountaintop, illustrating the severity of the situation.
