The California National Guard has been mobilized to assist law enforcement efforts in Los Angeles County following a request for assistance approved by Governor Gavin Newsom. Concerns have been raised about looters and scammers targeting vulnerable victims in the area, leading to confirmed arrests.
According to a statement from Newsom's office, hundreds of National Guard members will be deployed to enhance the capacity of local law enforcement. They will be stationed at traffic control points to ensure safety and prevent criminal activities.
Newsom issued a stern warning, stating that looting will not be tolerated and emphasizing the importance of protecting evacuated communities. The deployment of additional personnel, including firefighters, will bring the total number on the ground to 8,000.
Expressing gratitude to first responders and emergency personnel, Newsom described the deployment as a comprehensive effort to safeguard communities. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna announced plans to implement a curfew in affected areas under mandatory evacuation, with preparations underway for potential enforcement as early as the following night.
