A California man was handed a life sentence without the possibility of parole for killing two men who painted over his graffiti.

Jamal Jackson, who is now 26, was recorded spray painting graffiti on the side of a commercial building in Northridge on April 15, 2023. Hours later, a 4-person crew arrived to paint over art, which police said was gang-affiliated, while Jackson watched from his white Toyota Camry, MyNewsLA reported.

Jackson approached the group on foot with a handgun and fired multiple times, striking four people. Juan Lopez-Suarez, 39, one of the crew members, and Benjamin Marin, 69, a bystander, were killed in the attack. Marin experienced multiple organ failure and complications, which contributed to his death nearly two months later.

The offender was arrested a month after the fatal shooting, according to reporting by MyNewsLA.

Earlier this month, Jackson was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. On Wednesday, a jury handed down a sentencing of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
