
Santa Ana police officers shot and killed a man believed to be armed with a loaded rifle on Sunday evening, only to later discover the weapon was fake, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. after reports of a man loading a rifle. Police warned the public to avoid the area and confronted the suspect shortly thereafter. Two officers opened fire, fatally wounding the man, identified as a Hispanic male in his early 30s.

The suspect was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers or bystanders were injured.
The rifle was later determined to be a replica. Police have not released further details about the encounter or the man's identity as the investigation continues.
