Caledonia Gladiators coach Gareth Murray says moving to Playsport in East Kilbride will make them bigger and better, and future-proof the club.
Gladiators, who were formerly Glasgow Rocks, are still playing their games at the Emirates Arena in the city, but Murray says they’re slowly moving forward to the move to South Lanarkshire.
Signage for the club is already up at the EK venue, with an official announcement regarding the latest on their relocation expected within weeks.
But Murray says having all of the club’s operations under one roof will make a huge difference – and stop them from being booted off the court by other sports.
He said: “Our new home is going to be in East Kilbride, it’s moving slowly towards moving over there, and there will be an announcement in the next couple of weeks.
“It’s going to make such a difference. It’s going to be much better.
“We’ll have the ability to train whenever we want, as much as we
want, and everybody under the same roof.
“Both teams and the under-age groups will be there, boys and girls, moving forward, under the same roof, the same name, the same banner, and make it all one big club.”
Murray added: “The whole Caledonia Gladiators thing has been very positive.
“There are a lot of good plans and everything, we’re putting them in place for the future of the club and there’s nothing negative to come from it so far.
“Hopefully next year we’ll be bigger and even better.
“The new owners want to make the club bigger and better, involve the community and get more people playing basketball.
“We want to get more people coming out to watch the games, more engagement with everything to do with basketball, and the club is only going to grow from there.”
On the court,Gladiators are still competing in the British Basketball League.
But they are in cup action at the Emirates Arena on Friday when they host Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Trophy first round.
Murray, who hails from Rutherglen, added: “We have a tough game against Newcastle Eagles in the first round of the Trophy, so we’re just trying to gear up and prepare for that now.”
