While this year's NFL Draft will see four extremely talented quarterbacks enter the league - and all could be taken within the first five picks - the top prospect in college might not be available until the following off-season.
USC quarterback Caleb Williams is fresh off the back of a Heisman Trophy season, dominating in his second year at the collegiate level throwing 42 touchdowns to just five interceptions.
This has seen him draw comparisons with Patrick Mahomes, both quarterbacks who use their legs to get away from pressure before throwing from unusual angles.
But even Mahomes, the quarterback seen as the best in the NFL, never had the kind of season that Williams had, with some teams even considering not taking a quarterback this year and waiting for Williams.
Although at least a year away from entering the league, Williams has already spoken on the team he'd most like to join.
He told People Magazine: "I think it’s pretty self-explanatory. They have two of the fastest players in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Plus, I want to play for a young coach and Mike McDaniel is a cool guy from when I met him a couple times."
While Williams would make the Dolphins instant Super Bowl favourites, they are highly unlikely to draft the USC quarterback, while having one of the best rosters in the NFL.
They made the huge deal to bring in Jalen Ramsey this week, sending just a 2023 third-round pick and tight-end Hunter Long.
Ramsey still has three seasons left on the five-year, $105 million extension he signed in 2020, with the Dolphins showing their willingness to go all-in on winning a Super Bowl.
And another reason that fans can be assured that Williams will not be in Miami is their recent deal with current starter Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins opted to pick up the fifth-year option on Tagovailoa’s contract, meaning he'll be on the team until the end of the 2024 season.
The Hawaiian quarterback is guaranteed to make $23.2m in 2024 after the Dolphins opted to pick up the fifth-year option on Friday.
However, there have been questions over his immediate health, after he suffered three concussions last season - one which hospitalised him after dealing with two in the space of a week.
Tagovailoa has reportedly cleared all medical tests though, and looks to be in shape to be the team's starter for the foreseeable future.
