With no predicted rain in the forecast and winds intensifying in the northern regions of the current blazes, firefighters and emergency personnel are on high alert for the potential threat of additional fires. The area between Ventura Valley and San Diego is particularly at risk, according to Cal Fire information officer David Acuña.
Acuña emphasized that any area not currently affected by fires or previously burned is at risk of becoming a new ignition point. The abundance of dry grass and brush on the ground serves as fuel for potential fires to spread rapidly.
When questioned about the risk assessment for the upcoming weeks and months, Acuña revealed that Cal Fire no longer refers to a specific 'fire season' but rather considers the situation as a continuous 'fire year' due to the persistent threat of wildfires.
Investigations into the cause of each fire are currently underway, with individual jurisdictions conducting their assessments. While results are pending, Acuña assured that once the findings are available, they will be made public.
