Two lorries were seized after a HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) raid at Cairnryan last night.
The vehicles were towed out of Stena Line's facility at the port near Stranraer on Tuesday July 12. Customs officers were spotted arriving at the site yesterday afternoon in high-vis vests, with "HM Customs" lettering on the back, to carry out the inspection.
Some time later in the evening, the vehicles were removed from the premises by a recovery pickup truck. The contents of each lorry are currently unknown at this stage but the Record understands it is a civil matter and not criminal.
Pictures show the HGV lorries leaving the port on the back of a pickup truck, hired from a local company. The white lorry towers over the small pick-up as it is hauled away under a sign welcoming people to Loch Ryan Port.
Another image shows a second blue HGV lorry as its makes its way onto the main road outside the port. Two tied white seals are visible at the back of the lorry as it was towed away.
A HMRC Spokesperson said: “We can confirm that we had officers working in the Cairnryan area yesterday (Tuesday 12 July), but are unable to release further information at this time.”
Stena Line, who operate the service to and from Belfast, declined to comment when approached by the Record.
