A café worker has admitted she routinely writes negative reviews under a fake account about co-workers who upset her.
The young woman bragged about her mischief in a cheeky TikTok, which also features a text overlay that reads: "When my co-worker p****s me off, I make a fake account to go and write a negative review about them."
It has been viewed by more than 50,000 people and liked by more than 8,000 on the social media site.
Some applauded the woman - who goes by the username @shutyournuggets and used a face-distorting filter in the viral clip - while others said they think the behaviour is inappropriate.
One fellow hospitality worker wrote: I definitely have done that a few times."
Another person stated: "I did this about my managers as they were rude to us."
Reviews can typically be left on a range of websites, including TripAdvisor and Google.
But some TikTok users questioned whether writing fake reviews of co-workers actually has any purpose.
"Does that actually work?” one person asked, while another added: "My job doesn’t even look at them."
"No, companies typically systematically delete negative reviews," another TikTok said.
Others said they were inspired by the woman's antics.
But similar behaviour has been condemned previously as, in December 2021, a man who posted a series of false reviews on Tripadvisor was forced to pay more than £7,000 after the owner of the restaurant in Blackpool, Lancashire, took him to court.
Martin Stewart Pott claimed his family became sick after eating at Bispham Kitchen and posted 10 reviews on the website under a pseudonym but a judge at Manchester County Court ruled Potts was guilty of malicious falsehood.
And last year, laws were proposed to make paying someone to write a fake review become a criminal act.
It is aimed to protect the public from rogue traders.
