An independent coffee shop praised as a "safe haven" by caffeine lovers has announced its closure.
Root Coffee on Seel Street served specialist coffee such as beetroot lattes and a food menu which included salmon and cheese bagels. It announced its closure last week, with its final day of serving being tomorrow, February 24.
In the Instagram post, the coffee shop cited plans for redevelopment on the site as reasons for its closure. The post said: "This location has had its fair share of issues over the last couple of years and the landlord has decided to redevelop the space very soon, which means that the time has come to leave the premises."

Root Coffee added it would be taking a break from brewing "some of the finest speciality coffees from around the world". However, it is hopeful of a return to the city, advising customers to "watch this space for updates".
It also thanked "loyal customers" for supporting Root, and urged them to continue supporting the city's other independent coffee venues. It signed off: "Thanks again everyone, and remember: never settle for average coffee!"
Root fans rushed to the comments to express their sadness at the news. One said: "This was my safe haven when I first moved three years ago...and also during the pandemic. This makes me so sad but hope you guys reappear somewhere soon."
Another gushed: "You guys will be leaving a massive hole in the coffee scene. Hope to see Root return soon!"
Root's last day of opening will be February 24. In another post, they invited coffee lovers to "Grab one last cup with us".
