A cafe defended its decision to charge £10.45 for a Ploughman’s lunch after it faced a backlash on social media. Dozens of Facebook users criticised The Secret Garden Tearooms at Elsham Hall, North Lincolnshire, saying the meal was overpriced.
The cafe advertised its Ploughman’s lunch special on its Facebook page on Sunday, Yorkshire Live reports. It shared a photo of the dish and captioned the post: "Look what our food manager Louise created today.
"The most beautiful ploughman’s you’ll ever see. £10.45 per person… open tomorrow from 10am." But the post appeared to have divided the internet.

Although many commented on how delicious the Ploughman’s lunch looked, others were quick to say that they thought it was overpriced. Some users said they thought the items on the board would only cost around £1.50 to purchase separately. The status attracted more than 1,600 comments, forcing the cafe to respond.
The cafe said in a separate post on its Facebook page on Monday: "Well what can I say. Who would of thought a picture of a innocent ploughman’s would cause so much drama.
"For me I was proud of the picture my staff member sent me.. it meant she was proud of her work & cares about helping to promote us…For the most part people’s comments were supportive and encouraging and honestly we appreciate them so much and value all your support..
"The comments about the food costing £1.50 in total was a-little unfair ( I’d like to shop there myself) your not just paying for the food.. what your actually paying for is... The food to be delivered.
The food preparation staff to make it. A waitress to take out. A staff member to wash the pots. The pleasure of eating out in a nice clean environment and no washing up. Then there’s gas, electric, water ect ect the list goes on..
"On a positive note we had over 6000 likes and messages about bookings from as far as Ireland so I guess the saying there’s no such thing as bad publicity really is thing..Ps if our prices and pictures offend you please feel free to unfollow us. Love Rachel & my amazing team.. ps plates along with cutlery and napkins are set up on tables."
