Caerphilly yobs face £100 fine after increase in antisocial behaviour

Yobs who indulge in antisocial behaviour in Caerphilly have been warned they could be fined £100.

Gwent Police says that there has been an increase in antisocial behaviour in recent weeks that breach the Council Public Space Protection Orders covering a number of locations in the town. Officers say that one of the locations covered by the protection orders is Penyrheol Top Shops, and they have been receiving an increase in ASB calls concerning this area.

"If you breach this order you may receive a £100 fine," warns Gwent Police. Caerphilly County Borough says that antisocial behaviour or any kind of behaviour that is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress, continues to blight communities in its area and covers a wide range of activities such as inconsiderate use of vehicles, verbal abuse, noise nuisance and street drinking.

"The Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership takes a tough stance on ASB and has a number of tools at its disposal to deal with it including civil Injunctions, Community Protection Notices (CPNs), Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) and Closure Orders," it says. "ASB can have a negative effect on the quality of life of individuals and communities so it is important to report any concerns or issues you are experiencing."

It says that for advice and guidance relating to ASB people should contact its Community Safety Team. In an emergency you should dial 999, while for non-emergencies call 101.
