Plans for a new visitor centre in one of Caerphilly’s most popular country parks has been approved for development.
The new venue at Parc Penallta in Ystrad Mynach has been approved by Caerphilly County Borough Council and will be developed in partnership with the Welsh Government.
Local supply chains will be used to design the centre incorporating local building materials, including larch timber felled in the country park for the building’s cladding, as part of the Wood-Lab-Pren rural development project.
Acting as a community hub and gateway for the Valleys regional Park initiative, the visitor centre will offer education and conferencing facilities, a café, toilets, showers and a health and wellbeing hub.
Councillor Nigel George, responsible for parks and countryside, said the addition of the centre will enhance the visitor experience at Parc Penallta.
He said: “The enhancement of this country park will reinforce the importance of our environments and landscapes, the health and wellbeing of our communities and contribute towards a strong identity for Caerphilly County Borough, the Valleys Regional Park and Wales as a whole.”
He added: “The use of local supply chains is also important to us by maximising the investment being made and creating a multiplier effect within our local economy.”
