An Australian Defence Force cadet accused of raping a fellow student covered his face with a jacket and escaped in a waiting car in an effort to avoid cameras outside court.
After being granted bail, the accused man did not leave court through the usual front entrance where media cameras awaited.
Instead, he ran out of an adjacent court's exit only accessible through a passcode or fire escape.
The 19-year-old alleged rapist faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday, after being charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent. The charges are not classified as domestic violence.
The man, who The Canberra Times has chosen not to name on this occasion, is yet to enter pleas.
The man is accused of raping a fellow Australian Defence Force Academy student in May while at the Campbell college.
After an investigation, police arrested the alleged rapist on Thursday at the academy.
On Friday, the 19-year-old was granted bail with conditions not to be within 20 metres of the alleged victim.
The court heard they "shouldn't need to be in the same classes together."
He is set to return to court in November.
