Cadbury's Secret Santa Postal Service giving away thousands of free chocolate bars for Christmas

Cadbury’s popular Secret Santa postal service returns today, giving people the chance to send a bar of Cadbury chocolate to someone special this Christmas, completely free of charge.

Returning for its fifth year, Cadbury Secret Santa has seen nearly 100,000 people having gifted Cadbury chocolate anonymously over the years. This year, Cadbury is making Secret Santa more inclusive and accessible than ever by replacing its physical pop ups with a virtual postal service, accessed via posters across the country.

In previous years the postal service has visited cities across the UK in person, with many people queuing up in order to send off a Cadbury chocolate bar to someone special. This year, the event will all take place online.

To send a bar, chocolate fans will need to keep an eye out for one of the posters, which will be popping up across the country in more than 200 locations from November 14 until December 24. The digital posters can be spotted at bus stops, on high streets and even in train stations across the UK

The posters will feature a QR code that people can scan and be taken to the digital postal service where they will be shown if there is a bar in stock and if there is, they will be taken through steps to send their chocolate bar secretly to someone special. Bars will be released every day of the activation until December 24 to ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to become a Secret Santa.

A selection of Cadbury chocolate bars will be available to gift, including classic Cadbury Dairy Milk and a host of flavours including Winter Wonderland, Oreo, Caramel, Wholenut, Fruit & Nut, Mini Snowballs and Vegan Plant bar.

The postal service is supported by the brand’s Christmas advert, which this year stars a warm and cheeky postie named Jeff – a genuine and generous character. In the film, viewers are introduced to the possibility of sending an anonymous bar of chocolate for free, through posters popping up across the country from station platforms to the seaside.

Emma Paxton, senior brand manager, said: “The rumours are true! Our much-loved Secret Santa ritual is back, and this year, it’s bigger than ever before. At Cadbury, we’re all about encouraging generosity – we believe there’s a bar and a half in everyone – so this year we wanted to make Secret Santa more accessible than ever and to spread that generosity across the nation.

“That’s why from today, you’ll see our postal service popping up on posters across the country, giving 120,000 people the opportunity to send chocolate secretly to a loved one this season. We hope that our campaign encourages the nation to get into the Christmas spirit and become a Secret Santa, helped of course by our wonderful postie Jeff.”
