It’s not that big of a secret outside of Columbus, Ohio, but C.J. Stroud is really good at throwing the football. After rumors of Stroud falling in the draft because of bogus claims of “being hard to coach” and random test scores, the Houston Texans selected the former Buckeye QB with the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft.
In the short time since becoming a member of the Texans, it looks like Stroud is already getting first-team reps and may have already surpassed Davis Mills. Head coach DeMeco Ryans had some really positive things to say about the future of the franchise.
“C.J., he’s progressing well,” Ryans said via the Houston Chronicle. “Each day he continues to get better, continues to get more comfortable with the verbiage of the offense, command of the huddle.

The Houston Chronicle also reported that Stroud questioned defensive coordinator, Brian Burke for about ten minutes after practice after a disguised coverage lured him into an errant throw.
“[Stroud] spent about 10 minutes walking in off the field asking me about the coverage,” Burke said. “Of what he saw and how we kind of set it up and talked through that. His deliberateness and intent to try to get better … he’s literally grabbing everybody he can on the field.”
Sounds like everyone else is catching up to what the rest of Buckeye Nation already knew. There are no shortcuts to success in the NFL and it looks like C.J. Stroud is continuing the work ethic that made him a record-setting quarterback in his time at Ohio State.
The League should be on notice. Everyone already knew he had the athletic ability to succeed at the next level. If he keeps soaking up the nuances of the game and position, there is no stopping how good this young man can be.
