Buyako Saka ‘can’t describe the feeling’ as Arsenal star scores twice for England in huge Iran win

Bukayo Saka “can’t describe the feeling” after scoring twice in England’s 6-2 win over Iran to get their World Cup campaign off to a flying start.

The Arsenal forward was selected ahead of Phil Foden in what looked a big call from manager Gareth Southgate but more than repaid his manager’s trust with a scintillating display.

Saka scored England’s second with a fine volley after Jude Bellingham’s opener before bagging his brace and his team’s fourth in total with a devasting attempt after cutting inside his defender.

After heartbreak in the Euro 2020 final in which he missed the decisive penalty against Italy at Wembley’s final, Saka certainly made an early statement in his first World Cup appearance.

Speaking to the BBC, the 21-year-old said: “I can’t describe the feeling. It’s amazing, I’m so happy, I’m so proud, and we’ve got the win as well, so it’s a really special day!

“We needed a good start, we didn’t play the best coming into the tournament. But we showed everyone how much quality we have and what we can do.

“It’s amazing. We have to be consistent, because we have the next game coming up in a few days and we have to come again.

“I feel like I’m in a good place. I’ve got support from the fans, I feel the love, and support from the staff and my teammates, and that’s all I need. I gave 100 percent and I’ll continue to do that every time I put the shirt on.”
