Buwell shoppers excited for brand new pet shop as 'it will bring more people to the town'

Bulwell shoppers have shared their excitement over plans for a new pet store, describing the move as ‘really positive’ for the town. A brand new pet supply store is opening in the former The Money Shop on Main Street in Bulwell.

Shoppers expressed excitement about the new store as it will bring ‘more people to shop in Bulwell’. Janet Dudley told Nottinghamshire Live that it’s a lovely idea and joked about getting a pet so she can shop there.

The 70-year-old from Bulwell said: “It’s good for Bulwell. It’s the worst it’s ever been. It’s good that it’s opening, it’s either a vape shop or nail shop. It’s a good idea - I don’t have pets but my friend does.

“It’s nice for people to be able to come and shop locally. I think it’s lovely. I think I might have to get a budgie.”

There are also plans for a new pet grooming store on Highbury Road Bulwell. Another shopper, Melvin Billing, who is 69 and from Aspley, said the new store will bring more people to shop in Bulwell.

Mr Billing said: “It’s better than a charity shop, nail shop and barbers. It’s somewhere else for somebody to come shop. It’s been empty for a while, there’s a lot of shops going to be struggling now with gas and electricity.

“I think it’s going to get more people to come shop in Bulwell.”

Dawn Williams, who moved to Bulwell 60 years ago, told Nottinghamshire Live that the vacant shop looks like a eyesore and a new shop is positive for Bulwell. She said: “It’s better than it being shut. Its shops are shutting - down here used to be a ladies shop, Boots is gone, it’s all gone. Sometimes they close and come back somewhere else.

“Look at it, it’s a site. It’s a sore site, it’s horrible. It’s really positive - any shop will do as long as it’s not shut.”

It is unclear when the store is due to open however a sign of the former The Money Store reads: “Notice for Bulwell Residents. We are pleased to announce we will be opening a new Pet Supply Store in Bulwell Main Street in the former The Money shop.

“We’re also planning to open two more shops within the Nottingham area and a Pet Grooming shop on Highbury Road Bulwell.

“More information will be confirmed in due course, thank you.”
