Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg fired back at President Donald Trump on Thursday after the commander in chief criticized him during a press briefing regarding a recent midair collision between a military helicopter and a passenger airplane.
During the briefing, Trump sarcastically referred to Buttigieg as 'a real winner' and labeled him as a 'disaster,' citing his tenure as the mayor of South Bend, Indiana.
Buttigieg, who served as the Transportation Secretary under former President Joe Biden, took to social media to respond to Trump's comments. He emphasized the importance of leadership during times of tragedy and highlighted the safety measures implemented during his tenure, which led to zero commercial airline crash fatalities.
Buttigieg also criticized Trump's handling of key personnel within the military and the FAA, urging the president to demonstrate genuine leadership in ensuring aviation safety.
Having previously run for president in 2019 and later endorsing Biden, Buttigieg is reportedly considering a potential Senate run in Michigan. Sources close to Buttigieg revealed that he is exploring various options to continue serving the public and is seriously contemplating a Senate bid.
'Pete is evaluating how he can best contribute and serve the community. He is humbled by the consideration for a Senate run and is actively assessing this opportunity,' the source stated.
