Butter yellow is 2025's new neutral – and these 12 delicious pale yellow buys have convinced me it beats my once-loved beige

If you told me a few years ago that I'd be swapping all my neutrals for yellow, I'd have laughed. But in 2025, this soft and nostalgic butter yellow hue has quietly taken over my home.

And I’ve been slowly swapping my beiges for butter ever since. This creamy, sunny yet decidedly non-vibrant shade has convinced designers – and Style Editors like myself –that decorating with yellow is not only the mark of an on-trend home, but a warm and welcoming one too.

Whether it is drenched across your walls or popping up on your table, this gentle yellow adds just enough color to make a space feel optimistic. If you’ve been craving a spring decor refresh without going full dopamine decor, let me introduce you to the best butter yellow buys I’ve found.

In my opinion, butter yellow is the perfect in-between color. It brings warmth similar to decorating with neutrals like beige or taupe, but offers a little more charm and personality. It’s uplifting without being overpowering, which makes it incredibly versatile, too.

And I’m not the only one leaning into the trend. You'll find lots of celebrities decorating with butter yellow this year, from Gwyneth Paltrow to Martha Stewart, while butter yellow kitchen ideas are the unexpected trend we can't get enough of.

But I really knew we were onto something big when famed designer Beata Heuman collaborated with Mylands Paint for a collection of vintage-inspired hues, including No.21 Butter seen in the cocooning bedroom above.

Working beautifully with a palette of warm woods, earthy reds, and chalky white tones, there is a softness to butter yellow that makes it easy to introduce to your spaces with pieces you can easily layer in, such as textiles, accent furniture, and small decor finds. Here are 12 of my favorites to shop now.

What initially surprised me about the butter yellow trend is how seamlessly it works with everything else I already own. It’s not loud or bossy like a more vibrant yellow hue could be; it just lifts a space, especially when paired with the warm woods, earthy neutrals, and natural textures that I already own.

If you’ve been tempted by butter but aren't sure how to start, have a look at our piece on how to decorate with yellow without overwhelming a home. Spoiler: our Color Editor's first tip is to look to buttery shades to find the best yellow paints that will help create a more livable feel.
