Water pouring out onto streets of a Nottinghamshire town following a water leak and has turned them into an "ice rink" and a "potential danger", a local councillor has said. Engineers from Severn Trent were called to Stapleford after two streets have been affected by a burst water pipe on Saturday, December 17.
Councillor Richard MacRae, Independent councillor for Stapleford North on Broxtowe Borough Council, said the issue first became apparent on Friday, December 16. He explained the water is coming down the Crescent, which is a slight hill. The water is also affecting Pasture Road, a busy road in the Nottinghamshire town.
It comes as temperatures have plummeted across the county, with more severe weather forecast over the next 24 hours.. Industry experts say freezing temperatures can put pressure on pipe joints, causing them to leak or burst.

Councillor MacRae said: "It looks like it has been snowing. The whole road is covered and fresh water is still running down to the bottom of the Crescent.
He raised his concerns over a potential danger to pedestrians and drivers. "This is a busy road", he added. "A local gentleman told me that his son fell and dislocated his ankle. He is currently in hospital awaiting surgery to pin it."
"Severn Trent have been notified and they said it will be fixed by December 26. As the local Ward Councillor I am not happy with this response. With the weather set to drop again later this area will be like an ice rink."
A spokesperson for Severn Trent said that a team is attending as a priority to grit the site when approached by Nottinghamshire Live. The repair will take place this afternoon, they said.
A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We’re really sorry to anyone affected by the burst water pipe affecting Pasture Road and The Crescent in Stapleford, caused by the freezing temperatures we’re experiencing – freezing temperatures can put pressure on pipe joints, causing them to leak or burst.
“Our expert team of engineers are working 24/7 to find and fix these bursts as quickly and as safely as possible. The burst on Pasture Road and The Crescent has been assessed this morning and a team will be attending as quickly as possible today to make the repair. In the meantime a team is gritting the area to make it as safe as possible. Again, we’re very sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.”
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire County Council said that a team attended the area on Friday evening, adding: "We did grit the road last night. We are also placing warning signs today at the location. Anyone who is affected by this should call the customer service number which is available on our website."
