A busy road in a Merseyside town will be closed for the next six weeks.
A section of Bankfield Lane and Verulam Road in the Southport village of Churchtown will be closed as work begins to tackle flooding issues that have affected the area. The closures will begin today and are likely to last until June 15.
The stretch of Bankfield Lane closed will go from Blundell Lane to Verulam Road while maintenance work is carried out by United Utilities. Bus services, including the 49 Arriva service, will be diverted while the work takes place.

A report by Sefton Council said: "The objective of the project is to alleviate sewer flooding impacting homes and roads in the Churchtown area of Southport, especially on Verulam Road and Merlewood Avenue. It will improve the lives of homeowners in Verulam Road and Merlewood Avenue whose properties are at risk of flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
“It will also bring flood relief to other residents living within the area whose lives are frequently adversely impacted by external flooding of gardens and the highway during periods of heavy rainfall.
“The diversion route for Bankfield Lane shall be via, North Road, Preston New Road, Cambridge Road, Botanic Road, Bankfield Lane and vice versa. The local diversion route for Verulam Road shall be via: Merlewood Avenue, Bankfield Lane and vice versa.
“Access will be maintained for residents, businesses and the emergency services to all properties (including those on Blundell Lane) at all times.”
