Rail users in south Wales face more disruption with lines between Pontypridd and Cardiff closed over the coming weeks. Passengers are being urged to plan ahead for the closures, which are being put in place so major engineering work can take place on the railway.
The line between Radyr and Pontypridd closed on Sunday, January 8 and will remain shut for nearly three weeks. It will reopen on Friday, January 27, having been closed to trains every day during that period, with the exception of January 12 and 13.
The closures will also see services suspended between Radyr and Cardiff Central station from Sunday until Wednesday, January 11. Get the latest traffic and travel news from across Wales sent straight to your inbox by free by signing up to our newsletters.

Services north of Pontypridd will also be affected, with no trains running from the station to Treherbert, Aberdare or Merthyr Tydfil between Saturday, January 14 and Sunday, January 22.
The closures have been brought in to allow for the latest phase of engineering work to continue on the South Wales Metro. The project, which is now set to be finished in 2024, involves the electrification of the core Valley lines (from Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr and Rhymney into Cardiff), as well as the Coryton and city lines through the capital down to Cardiff Bay.
Overhead line equipment will be installed as part of the latest phase of engineering, while the railway embankment at Pentre-bach station will be widened. There will also be upgrades made to Devil’s Footbridge and Quakers Yard Footbridge, while Transport for Wales will also carry out major gas diversion works along the Treherbert Line.
TfW is encouraging passengers to check for the latest travel information before making their journeys. Replacement bus services will be in operation while the work takes place, while rail tickets will also be accepted on selected local bus services. A full list of these routes can be found below.
